Water Use

Water is essential to life and beer. Given our roots in the Rocky Mountains and near the shores of Lake Michigan, we take water usage very seriously.
We’re proud to say that we operate some of the most water efficient breweries in the world. In fact, our Texas brewery leads MillerCoors with a water-to-beer ratio of 3.59 barrels of water for each barrel of beer produced. Several of our other breweries also have a water-to-beer ratio of less than 4.0 to 1.0, and we’re committed to reducing our water usage even further across all of our brewery locations.
MillerCoors is not only committed to water stewardship in our breweries, but also in our communities. Through a partnership with The Nature Conservancy, we are helping build a long-term plan to address water conservation and help our barley farmers at the Silver Creek Watershed in Idaho to be more efficient with their agricultural practices.
We also strive to conserve water at a local level. MillerCoors teamed up with River Network, a national nonprofit organization to create a grant competition. The grants provided investment and support to local organizations that focus on watershed quality, education, and conservation efforts in their communities.
